Parliament to convene from today until January 23

Sri Lanka’s Parliament is scheduled to convene from today (January 20) until January 23.

According to the parliamentary schedule, proceedings today will begin at 9.30 a.m., with time allocated until 10.00 a.m. for matters listed under Standing Orders 22 (1) to (6).

From 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., time has been set aside for questions requiring oral answers, followed by questions under Standing Order 27 (2) from 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

Thereafter, from 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., Parliament will debate and seek approval for the “Aswesuma” Welfare Benefits Payment Scheme, implemented under the Welfare Benefits Act No. 24 of 2002, as announced in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2467/03 dated December 15, 2025.

The session will conclude with questions raised during the adjournment period from 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
