The Science for Disaster Resilience programme has recommended the use of modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accurately identify and map disaster-prone areas through advanced geographical and scientific research.

The programme emphasized that such measures would enable effective disaster preparedness rather than merely responding after disasters occur.

The initiative is being implemented under the leadership of the Ministry of Science and Technology, with the aim of using scientific and technological knowledge to strengthen the country’s ability to face natural disasters.

A special awareness session on the programme’s recommendations and future action plans was held under the patronage of Minister Professor Krishantha Abeysena.

Addressing the event, the Minister stated that technology should be used primarily for disaster preparedness instead of focusing only on disaster response.
