The project, implemented by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to improve rural connectivity and infrastructure in several provinces.
The Ambagamuwa–Kandekumbura road project covers a 3.3-kilometre stretch and will involve carpeting the road and concreting steep bends to ensure safer travel. The total estimated cost of the project exceeds Rs.270 million.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Plantations and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyarathna, Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe, Uva Provincial Governor Kapila Jayasekara, Uva Provincial Chief Secretary Anusha Gokula, as well as local officials and residents.
Authorities stated that the project would significantly benefit people in the Ella Divisional Secretariat area by improving transport facilities and access to essential services.
