Welikada Prison authorities have recovered 16 mobile phones from the ward where former Member of Parliament Duminda Silva, who has been sentenced to death, and former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who is serving a prison sentence, are being held.
It was reported that additional phones were also found in an adjacent ward.
The discovery was made during a search operation conducted by the Prisons Intelligence Unit. Both former parliamentarians are currently detained in the K Ward of Welikada Prison.
It was reported that approximately 150 other inmates are also being held in the same ward along with the two former lawmakers.
