Sri Lanka’s computer literacy rate has increased to 38.4 percent in the first half of 2025, according to the latest survey released by the Department of Census and Statistics.

The urban sector recorded the highest level of computer literacy at 52.1 percent, while the rural sector stood at 36.6 percent. The estate sector reported the lowest rate at 18.6 percent.

The survey also revealed that 39.9 percent of males and 37.1 percent of females are computer literate. The gender gap in computer literacy was noted to be relatively small.

Among all age groups, youth aged 15 to 19 years recorded the highest computer literacy rate at 75.6 percent, highlighting strong digital awareness among younger generations.

The findings reflect steady progress in digital education across the country, though regional disparities remain.
