Plans are underway to increase fines for the production and distribution of substandard plastic products, Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody said.
Jayakody noted that the relevant regulations have been established under the amended Environment Act.
He added that the current fine for producing or distributing substandard plastic products stands at Rs. 10,000.
