Weighing an impressive 3,536 carats, the rare gemstone has been certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as a natural, unheated Purple Star Sapphire. This confirms that the gem has not undergone any heat treatment, preserving its original natural characteristics.
The Lanka Gemological Laboratory (LGL) has also verified the stone’s Sri Lankan origin, highlighting the island’s global reputation for producing exceptional gemstones.
One of the most striking features of the “Star of Pure Land” is its six-ray asterism — a star-shaped light reflection pattern that appears clearly and symmetrically across the surface of the gem. The star effect is evenly spread, enhancing the stone’s visual brilliance and rarity.
The gemstone has been cut and polished in a round cabochon style, a technique commonly used to showcase the star effect in sapphires. According to experts, this is the largest natural Purple Star Sapphire in the world to be finished in this specific cut.
The unveiling of this extraordinary gemstone further strengthens Sri Lanka’s status as one of the world’s leading sources of high-quality sapphires.
