Sandhya Ekneligoda, the wife of disappeared journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda, has written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake protesting the promotion of an Army Intelligence officer accused in connection with her husband’s abduction and disappearance.

In her letter, she said Lieutenant Colonel Erantha Radeesh Peiris had been promoted to the rank of Colonel despite being a defendant in the criminal case relating to the disappearance of Prageeth Ekneligoda on January 24, 2010.

She noted that in 2019 the Attorney General filed 17 indictments against Peiris, including a charge of murder, and that the Criminal Investigation Department had presented substantial evidence before court in the ongoing case.

Ekneligoda urged the President to give the matter urgent attention and to take immediate steps to suspend the promotion or, if it has already been granted, to revoke it.
