Sri Lanka Customs has reported a strong start to revenue collection in 2026, with earnings reaching Rs. 106.6 billion during the first 13 days of January, according to official figures. This amount exceeds two-thirds of the monthly target of Rs. 160.2 billion.

The improved performance comes after the department accelerated container clearance operations from last month. Earlier, Customs activities were disrupted for at least four days in November due to Cyclone Ditwah, which caused a temporary suspension of operations.

Higher import volumes recorded in December have also contributed to the increased revenue intake.

In 2025, Sri Lanka Customs achieved its highest-ever annual revenue of Rs. 2,551 billion, surpassing the revised target of Rs. 2,241 billion. This marked a 64.2% increase compared to the Rs. 1,553 billion collected in the previous year.

Officials say the strong start to 2026 reflects improved operational efficiency and growing trade activity.
