95 Red Notices issued against overseas-based criminals: Police

Police have obtained red notices against 95 organised criminals currently hiding abroad, a senior police official said.

Speaking at a media briefing today (16), Police Media Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler said that 10 suspects were brought back to Sri Lanka through red notices in 2024, while 11 suspects were returned in 2025.

He also noted that during the same period, 21 suspects were brought to the country under the Extradition Act. "In 2024, we were able to bring 10 suspects to Sri Lanka through red notices, and in 2025, 11 suspects. In 2024-2025, 21 suspects were brought through the Extradition Act," Wootler said.

Wootler added that many criminals who are hiding abroad and conducting online crimes have already been identified, leading to the issuance of 95 red notices so far.

He further stated that as a result of red notices, two male suspects and one female suspect were brought to Sri Lanka today.
