The suspect was found wearing a police inspector’s sports uniform and loitering near a lodge in Pettah, prompting officers to question her on suspicion. Investigations revealed that she was not a police officer.
During a search, police recovered a wooden toy pistol from her possession. The woman initially claimed that she had lost her national identity card and said she had lodged a complaint regarding the matter at the Peradeniya Police Station, producing a copy of the relevant entry.
However, further investigations revealed that she was in possession of her national identity card at the time.
Police said that the woman was arrested on suspicion of possible involvement in illegal activities. Further investigations are underway.
