Two organised criminals who had been hiding in Dubai and a woman wanted in connection with a money laundering investigation were arrested by a special police team and brought to Sri Lanka this morning (16), police said.
The suspects arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake at around 5.20 a.m. on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-226 from Dubai, under tight security.
Those arrested include 52-year-old Ravin Chaminda Weerasinghe alias Puncha, a resident of Elpitiya, Uragaha, and Kirieldeniyage Don Rasika Sanjeewa Kumara alias Chuti Malli, a resident of Kandana.
Police stated that the two men are wanted in connection with several serious offences, including drug trafficking, extortion, robbery, and murder.
Also among the arrested suspects is 56-year-old Nishamani de Silva, a resident of Ratmalana, who was wanted for investigations into a money laundering case. She was also brought to Sri Lanka via Katunayake Airport.
Following their arrival, the three suspects were first taken to the Peliyagoda Divisional Crime Investigation Division and were later escorted under heavy security to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
