Informing the High Commission of their contribution, the couple handed over a letter together with the relevant receipt to the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mr Nimal Senadheera.
In their letter, the couple stated that the donation was made with the intention of extending assistance to the people of Sri Lanka who were affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
They also mentioned that, during their three-week visit to Sri Lanka over the recent Christmas and New Year period, they developed a very positive impression of the country’s natural beauty, the admirable human qualities of its people and its delicious cuisine.
Furthermore, the letter notes that, despite the damage caused by the cyclone, it was clearly evident that the country is rising again with resilience. They also expressed their hope to maintain cordial relations in the future with their neighbour, the Sri Lanka High Commission in the United Kingdom and conveyed their best wishes on Sri Lanka’s National Day.
