A couple residing in the United Kingdom has stepped forward to support Sri Lanka’s recovery efforts by donating £2,000 to assist victims of Cyclone Ditwah.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wood, who live in close proximity to the Sri Lanka High Commission in London, made the contribution to the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund. The couple personally informed the High Commission of their donation and handed over a letter and receipt to Sri Lankan High Commissioner Nimal Senadheera.
In their letter, the Woods explained that the donation was made with the intention of helping Sri Lankans affected by the recent natural disaster. They also reflected on their recent visit to the country during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The couple said their three-week stay in Sri Lanka left them with a lasting admiration for the island’s scenic beauty, the kindness of its people and its vibrant culture and cuisine.
They further noted that although Cyclone Ditwah had caused significant damage, they were encouraged to see the resilience and determination of the Sri Lankan people in rebuilding their lives.
Expressing goodwill toward Sri Lanka, the Woods also conveyed their desire to maintain friendly relations with the Sri Lanka High Commission and extended warm wishes ahead of Sri Lanka’s National Day.
Their gesture has been welcomed as a meaningful act of solidarity with Sri Lanka during a time of need.
