The inaugural program of the “Rata Ma Ekata” national operation was held on October 30, 2025, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo, followed by the Southern Province program on November 20, 2025, in Tangalle.
Tomorrow’s program in the Northern Province is expected to raise public awareness about the urgent need to eradicate the drug menace, clarify the specific objectives of the “Rata Ma Ekata” operation, and secure meaningful participation from the local community and all relevant stakeholders.
The operation focuses on several key tasks, including: taking legal action against drug users, sellers, and all parties involved in drug trafficking; properly rehabilitating those addicted to drugs; shaping public opinion to mobilize society against drug abuse; ensuring coordinated action among all government institutions and stakeholders toward a common goal; and promoting positive campaigns to prevent drug use.
According to a report issued by the Police Media Division, from October 30, 2025, to January 13, 2026, under the “Rata Ma Ekata” national operation:
A total of 69,960 drug-related raids were conducted.
69,318 suspects were arrested.
1,446 suspects were remanded.
Investigations have commenced against 58 suspects for illegal assets.
1,384 drug users have been referred for rehabilitation.
The “Rata Ma Ekata” national operation is being implemented to prevent the health, social, and economic damage caused by drug proliferation and to ensure public safety across the country.
