The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has issued a set of safety instructions for Sri Lankan nationals working and residing in Israel, in view of the escalating unrest in the Middle East region.
In a statement, the Embassy urged Sri Lankans not to panic due to misinformation circulating through certain media outlets and groups, assuring that the Israeli security forces and military are prepared to manage any emerging situation. The Embassy emphasized that there is no immediate threat to Sri Lankan nationals at present.
Referring to the Iranian missile attacks in June 2025, the Embassy noted that no Sri Lankans were harmed, as most individuals promptly sought shelter in their residences or nearby safe locations after emergency sirens were activated, with continuous guidance from Israeli security authorities and the Embassy.
As precautionary measures, Sri Lankans in Israel have been advised to closely follow information issued by Israeli media and security forces, keep essential medication readily accessible, and seek immediate shelter in the event of missile warnings or terrorist threats. Those working in open areas have been instructed to move to the nearest safe location upon receiving alerts, while individuals traveling in vehicles are advised to exit their vehicles and seek shelter if an emergency occurs.
The Embassy also requested families in Sri Lanka to avoid unnecessary panic if communication is disrupted due to power outages or internet failures. Sri Lankans planning to travel to Israel in the coming days have been urged to remain vigilant and closely monitor the situation.
The Embassy further announced that it will be closed today (15) for Thai Pongal and on the 16th and 17th due to the Israeli government’s weekend holiday. However, emergency services will remain operational for unforeseen situations.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has advised its citizens and people of Indian origin in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible. International media reports also indicate that efforts are underway to evacuate personnel from American military bases in Doha, while some flights passing through the region have reportedly been suspended or restricted.
