Consumers can expect lower prices for imported milk powder as importers have agreed to reduce the cost following discussions at the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development.
Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, his Private Secretary Wasantha Dissanayake, and Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman Hemantha Samarakoon attended the meeting with milk powder importers, where the fall in global milk powder prices was highlighted.
As a result, from January 16, the price of a kilogram of imported milk powder will be reduced by Rs. 125, while a 400-gram packet will be cheaper by Rs. 50. The Trade Ministry also indicated that further price reductions are expected in April.
The reduction aims to pass on the benefits of lower international prices directly to Sri Lankan consumers.
