Colombo High Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa for failing to appear before court in connection with a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The case relates to allegations that the former minister unlawfully acquired assets valued at over Rs. 75 million.

The arrest warrant was issued by Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal, who ordered that the defendant be arrested and produced before the court at the earliest possible date.

Court proceedings revealed that Weerawansa had failed to appear on the scheduled date without providing a satisfactory explanation, prompting the court to take this action.

Further legal proceedings are expected once the accused is produced before the court.
