A retired Navy medical assistant has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on charges of demanding and receiving a bribe amounting to Rs. 200,000.
The arrest was made yesterday near the D.S. Fonseka Road junction in Thimbirigasyaya, following a complaint lodged by a resident of Wellawatte.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly demanded a total of Rs. 300,000 to secure the admission of the complainant’s eldest daughter to Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, for Grade One in 2026. It is alleged that the suspect accepted Rs. 100,000 on three separate occasions and was demanding the remaining Rs. 200,000 at the time of arrest.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
