The drafting of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy has commenced with the aim of ensuring equitable distribution of benefits from the fisheries sector and promoting the sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture.

While the policy has been updated periodically to meet evolving requirements, previous drafts had not received formal approval from the Cabinet of Ministers.

Under the current government’s policy framework, Vistas of Prosperity and Splendor, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy has been redrafted to align with the economic and development objectives of the government. The Department of National Planning has provided recommendations on the updated draft.

Following these developments, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Marine Resources to implement the updated National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy, integrating it with other relevant national policies.
