In an effort to strengthen accountability and curb potential misuse of public resources, the Cabinet has approved a digital fuel card system for vehicles belonging to government institutions.

The system, jointly developed by the Bank of Ceylon and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, will allow fuel payments to be reimbursed through online banking based on actual consumption, minimizing personal intervention and ensuring greater transparency.

As part of the rollout, the President has proposed a pilot project for the reserve vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat. If successful, the initiative will be expanded to cover all government institutions, signaling a step forward in digitizing administrative processes and promoting responsible use of public funds.
