The Department of Meteorology said the approaching weather system could also generate sudden strong winds, increasing the risk of fallen trees, power outages and damage to property.
Officials highlighted that simple safety measures could significantly reduce the risk of injury and accidents, calling on the public to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid exposed areas such as farmlands, plantations and water bodies.
People have also been warned to limit the use of electrical appliances and wired communication devices during lightning activity, while those using open vehicles such as bicycles, tractors and boats are advised to suspend travel until conditions improve.
Residents are further advised to remain vigilant for downed power lines and other storm-related hazards, and to seek assistance from local disaster management authorities in case of emergencies.
