The Sri Lanka Navy seized 108,480 pharmaceutical tablets during a special search operation conducted in the Kalpitiya–Kandakkuliya sea .

The operation was carried out by the Kandakkuliya Naval Detachment attached to Sri Lanka Navy Ship Vijaya under the Northern Central Naval Command. During the search, naval personnel inspected two abandoned bags found in the sea area and discovered the stock of pharmaceutical tablets, which had allegedly been abandoned by smugglers while attempting to bring them into the country illegally.

The seized tablets were subsequently handed over to the Katunayake Customs Prevention Office for further legal action.

Meanwhile, the Navy said that during operations carried out in 2025, a total of 1,683,722 pharmaceutical tablets smuggled into the country were seized and forwarded to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings. The Sri Lanka Navy reiterated that it will continue its operations to curb smuggling and other illegal activities in Sri Lankan waters.
