A beat forest officer has been arrested by investigators of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 and a bottle of liqour.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Hulannuge.

Investigations revealed that the officer had allegedly accepted the bribe in return for refraining from initiating legal action over the unauthorized cultivation of a four-acre plot of land owned by the complainant. The land in question had been allocated to the Nelu Wewayaya reserve.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Magistrate’s Court.
