Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne has announced that measures have been taken to increase the price of paddy from the upcoming cultivation season in a move aimed at supporting farmers.
He also said a decision has been made to raise the prices of Samba and Keeri Samba rice varieties, which are widely consumed across the country.
The Deputy Minister noted that while price manipulation by so-called rice mafias is usually reported during this period in previous years, no such activity has been observed so far this year, indicating a more stable market environment.
