Gold and silver prices recorded a significant increase in the global market, with gold crossing the USD 4,600 mark per ounce, while silver rose above USD 84 per ounce.

Reflecting this international trend, gold prices in Sri Lanka increased by Rs. 3,000 today (12).

As a result, the price of a sovereign of 22-carat gold has risen to Rs. 337,600, while 24-carat gold is now priced at Rs. 365,000.

Market analysts say the surge is driven by global economic uncertainty, investor demand for safe-haven assets, and fluctuations in currency markets.
