Train services between Mahawa and Anuradhapura will be suspended from January 19 to March 31 due to ongoing renovation and repair work on cyclone-damaged sections of the Northern Railway Line, railway authorities announced.

However, train services between Anuradhapura and Kankesanthurai will continue to operate as normal. Authorities have stated that the full Northern Railway Line is expected to be reopened for regular services from April.

To reduce inconvenience to passengers, the Sri Lanka Transport Board is considering operating special bus services from Mahawa during the closure period.
