The reconstruction of the northern railway line from Maho to Omantha, which was damaged by Cyclone Ditwah, commenced today (11).
The project is being carried out with financial assistance from the Government of India, reaffirming continued cooperation between the two countries in strengthening key infrastructure.
Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, was present at the inauguration ceremony, according to our correspondent.
The Mahawa–Omantha railway line had originally been constructed with financial assistance from the Indian government and serves as a vital transport link in the Northern Province.
