The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced that entering the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) will be mandatory when transferring ownership of vehicles, with effect from January 5.

In a statement, the DMT said the new requirement applies to the ownership transfer database maintained by the Department. Accordingly, the National Identity Card (NIC) number or Business Registration number, together with the TIN of the new owner, must be provided at the time of ownership transfer.

The Department clarified that the regulation will apply to all vehicle categories except motorcycles, hand tractors, tractors, tractor trailers and three-wheelers.
