SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa on Sunday criticized the government’s new Grade VI English Language module, saying it included content unsuitable for Sri Lanka’s social and cultural context.
Addressing the media after a Buddhist sermon organised by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), he alleged that the Prime Minister and relevant minister knew who was responsible for the disputed material and had admitted that incorrect content had been included.
He said the SLPP has consistently opposed reforms that damage Sri Lankan culture and called for education policies tailored to the country’s needs, rather than copying foreign models.
Rajapaksa also accused the government of shifting blame to the previous administration for the reforms’ implementation failures. He said the SLPP would introduce education reforms aimed at national development once it returned to power.
