He emphasized that Sri Lanka needs a modern education framework capable of preparing the younger generation to compete at an international level. The President also highlighted that education is the only sustainable path to free rural children from the cycle of poverty and inequality.

Speaking at a compensation distribution programme held today (09) near Wewa Temple in Rajanganaya, Anuradhapura District, the President urged the public not to be misled by false propaganda and reaffirmed that essential education reforms will continue to ensure a better future for the country’s children.

The event was organized to provide compensation for families whose homes were completely destroyed by recent disasters in the Divisional Secretariat areas of Rajanganaya, Thalawa, Nochchiyagama, Mahavilachchiya, Padaviya, Kebithigollewa, Mihintale, and Rambewa.

The housing assistance is part of the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative, specifically under the “Project 5M” programme, which focuses on post-disaster recovery. In the first phase, financial assistance is being provided to families who are eligible to rebuild homes at their original locations.

Addressing the gathering, President Dissanayake stated that the government is successfully implementing a national recovery plan that not only fulfills public expectations but also aims to rebuild the country to a better standard than before the disaster.
The President symbolically laid the foundation stone for a new house and later distributed compensation cheques to beneficiaries.

The event was attended by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Susil Ranasinghe, North Central Province Governor Wasantha Jinadasa, Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya, regional officials, and local residents.
