The investigation team has engaged master divers to assist in the recovery of a Cessna 208 Grand Caravan (4R-CAE) involved in an incident at Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya yesterday.
Once retrieved, the aircraft will be transported to Katunayake for detailed technical investigations.
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Ports & Civil Aviation, Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation and CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), promptly deployed a team to the site following the initial report.
In accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13 standards, a formal investigation committee has been appointed, comprising experts in aircraft engineering and operations, to determine the cause of the incident.
Recovery operations are ongoing, with the support of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Navy, Police, and local civilians, including boat riders who assisted during the initial response. The Civil Aviation Authority extended its gratitude to all those who contributed to the prompt response and recovery efforts.
