US Ambassador Makes Farewell Call on Defence Secretary

The outgoing Ambassador of the United States, H.E. Julie Chung, paid a farewell call on the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), at the Ministry of Defence today (08 January), marking the conclusion of the envoy’s diplomatic tenure in Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, the Defence Secretary and the US Ambassador reflected on the strong and longstanding defence cooperation between the two countries and discussed avenues for continued collaboration in regional security, capacity building, and matters of mutual interest.

The Defence Secretary expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government of the United States for the timely assistance extended to Sri Lanka during the recent Cyclone Ditwah, highlighting its significance in supporting relief and recovery efforts for affected communities.

The Defence Secretary expressed appreciation for the outgoing Ambassador’s valuable contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and extended his best wishes for all her future endeavours, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to maintaining close and constructive relations with the United States.

The Defence Attaché at the US Embassy, Lieutenant Colonel Matthew House was also present at the occasion.
