A new employment pathway for Sri Lankan youth has been opened through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed yesterday (January 7) at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).
The agreement, inked between Japan-based Enterprise United Co-operative and the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency, aims to create job opportunities in Japan’s electrical engineering sector. The MoU was signed by Mr. Kazuhiro Hanzaki, Chairman of Enterprise United Co-operative, and Mr. Lal Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency.
Under the MoU, Sri Lankan candidates aged 20 to 28 with National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) and completion of GCE Advanced Level studies will be eligible to apply. Japanese language proficiency is an added advantage, and the programme includes both vocational and language training to prepare candidates for work in Japan. The Cabinet has granted approval for this initiative.
Training will be provided at the Sapugaskanda Vocational Training Centre under the National Youth Service Council (NYSC). The selection process will involve multiple agencies, including NYSC, the Vocational Training Authority (VTA), NAITA, the Technical Education and Training Authority (TETA), and the SLBFE, using the Bureau’s registered job bank. Recruitment and placements will be managed by the SLBFE in line with the government programme.
