The Department of Examinations has announced a series of special arrangements to ensure that candidates affected by Cyclone Ditwah can sit the remaining subjects of the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination without disruption.
According to the Commissioner General of Examinations, the postponed subjects will be conducted from January 12 to January 20, while examination times will remain unchanged from the original timetable. The revised schedule has already been communicated to candidates and made available on the Department’s official website and Facebook page.
She said islandwide arrangements have been strengthened with the establishment of 2,086 examination centres, along with 325 coordination centres and 32 regional centres, to facilitate the smooth conduct of the examination.
To assist candidates who may have lost their identity documents due to the adverse weather conditions, the Commissioner General said alternative identification methods have been approved. School candidates may sit the examination using a temporary identity card certified with two passport-sized photographs by the school principal and the Zonal Education Director, while private candidates may obtain certification from the Grama Niladhari and Divisional Secretary.
She further stressed that candidates are required to report to their examination centres at least one hour before the examination begins and be seated 30 minutes prior to commencement. The use of mobile phones, smart watches, calculators and other prohibited electronic devices within examination halls will remain strictly forbidden
In cases where candidates are unable to reach their assigned centres due to weather-related difficulties, school candidates will be permitted to sit the examination at the nearest centre with the approval of their principal, while private candidates must inform the Department of Examinations before doing so.
Meanwhile, arrangements have also been finalised to conduct the General Information Technology Examination for Grade 12 students on January 11.
