The water level of the Alikota Ara Reservoir has risen rapidly due to heavy rainfall, according to our correspondent. As a result, three spill gates of the reservoir have been opened by one foot each to release excess water.

With water now being discharged into the Kirindi Oya, the river’s water level is also rising quickly. Our correspondent reported that the situation continues to intensify as rainfall persists in the area.

In response, the Monaragala District Disaster Management Unit has issued a warning to residents living along both banks of the Kirindi Oya and to those who use the river. The public has been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions.

Authorities urge people in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay informed and follow official instructions to avoid potential risks.
