The Department of Irrigation has issued a flood preparedness early warning following heavy rainfall forecasts.

According to a notice released at 11.00 p.m. yesterday (07), there is a risk of flooding in river basins located in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Vavuniya, and Jaffna.

The Department stated that increased rainfall is expected in river catchment areas across the Uva, Eastern, Central, North Central, and Northern Provinces, which could lead to rising water levels and flood conditions.

Residents living in low-lying areas and near river banks in the affected districts have been urged to remain highly vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures.
