An agreement for the construction of the Indo–Lanka Sports Complex at the Army College in Buttala, with Indian assistance, was signed during the official visit of Indian Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, to the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters today.
General Dwivedi, accompanied by a delegation, was received on arrival by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, and was accorded a guard of honour by Sri Lanka Army troops in accordance with military tradition.
Following a cordial meeting between the two Army Commanders, the agreement was finalised, marking a significant step in strengthening defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and India.
During the visit, the Indian Army Chief also attended a ceremony organised to recognise the dedicated service of members of the Sri Lanka Army Response Team who played a key role during recent disaster situations in the country. Subsequently, 20 vehicles, training simulators and two ambulances were officially handed over to the Sri Lanka Army.
The occasion also served to reaffirm the close personal friendship and longstanding professional ties between the Chiefs of Staff of the two countries.
A large number of senior Army officers, officers and other ranks were present at the event.
