The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has initiated a formal investigation into an incident involving a Cinnamon Air–operated Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft during a water landing attempt at Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya on Tuesday (7).
CAASL Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Captain Daminda Rambukwella, said the incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. and confirmed that both pilots on board escaped unharmed. He added that no injuries were reported and no damage was caused to any third party.
The aircraft was operating a scheduled domestic service to Gregory Wewa Reservoir to collect passengers from Nuwara Eliya. CAASL noted that water-based flight operations have been carried out at Gregory Wewa for several years, and this marks the first incident reported in connection with such operations.
Following directives from the Ministry of Ports and Aviation, an investigation team from the Civil Aviation Authority was immediately deployed to the site, and a comprehensive inquiry is now underway.
Several state institutions, including the Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Police, are supporting the investigation, CAASL said.
