Special traffic plan announced in Kelaniya

Police have announced a special traffic plan in view of the annual Duruthu Perahera of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, which will take place today (07).

According to police, the procession will commence from the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and proceed via the Kelani Siri Roundabout, Peliyagoda Road, past the Pilapitiya Cemetery, along Gonagampola Road near the Bodhirukkarama Viharaya, enter Waragoda Road, pass through Nungamugoda Junction, Galborella and Valankade Junction, before moving along Vihara Mawatha to join Biyagama Road and conclude via the Navaloka entrance.

Due to the procession, traffic restrictions will be in effect from 3.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. today. Police have requested the general public to use alternative routes during this period.

Alternative Routes:

Vehicles traveling from Battaramulla towards Biyagama should turn right at the Kelanimulla traffic lights and proceed via Ambatale Road through Kaduwela towards Biyagama.

Vehicles traveling from Battaramulla towards Peliyagoda should turn left at the Kelanimulla traffic lights and proceed via Thotalanga Road towards Peliyagoda.

Vehicles traveling from Biyagama towards Peliyagoda should turn right at the Pattivila Junction and proceed via Sapugaskanda and Kiribathgoda.

Vehicles traveling from Biyagama towards Battaramulla should turn left at the Bandarawatta Junction and proceed via Kaduwela–Ambatale Road.

Vehicles traveling from Peliyagoda towards Biyagama should proceed via Kiribathgoda and Sapugaskanda.

Vehicles traveling from Peliyagoda towards Battaramulla should proceed via Thotalanga Road from the Kelanimulla traffic lights.

Vehicles traveling from Waragoda towards Biyagama should proceed via the Old Kandy Road, Tire Junction, Kiribathgoda and Sapugaskanda.

Vehicles entering Biyagama from the Old Kandy Road should proceed via Kiribathgoda and Sapugaskanda along the Pattivila Road.

Police urge motorists to follow instructions given by officers on duty and plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience.
