The move is part of a broader effort to improve the global rankings of Sri Lankan universities and promote their internationalization by fostering advanced academic partnerships with overseas institutions. The proposal was submitted by the Prime Minister in his capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, and has been approved for a five-year period.
Accordingly, the following MoUs will be signed:
An MoU between the Sri Lanka Bhiksu University and Mahamakut Buddhist University of Thailand, aimed at strengthening academic and research cooperation. The agreement focuses on enhancing educational and cultural activities between faculties and students, conducting collaborative research, and organizing academic workshops and conferences.
An MoU between the Sri Lanka Bhiksu University and the Nalanda Institute in Jakarta, Indonesia, to promote educational cooperation in the fields of education, research, and community service. The agreement also covers knowledge exchange among academics and lecturers, shared use of physical resources such as laboratories and libraries, internship and training programmes, academic conferences, human resource development, and curriculum development.
An MoU between the University of Colombo and the SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Poland, which aims to facilitate joint research and publications in mutually agreed fields, organize joint conferences and workshops, promote academic staff and student exchanges, and share educational information and materials.
The Cabinet noted that these partnerships are essential for strengthening Sri Lanka’s higher education sector and enhancing its global academic standing.
