The Government of Sri Lanka has expressed deep concern over recent developments in Venezuela, stating that it is closely monitoring the situation.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Sri Lanka underscored the importance of upholding international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, including the prohibition of the use of force, non-intervention, the peaceful settlement of international disputes, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
Sri Lanka also emphasized the need to ensure the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan people and the stability of the region, urging all parties involved to pursue peaceful solutions through dialogue and de-escalation.
The statement further noted that, at this critical juncture, it is vital for the United Nations and its organs, including the UN Security Council, to actively engage in efforts toward a peaceful resolution, while safeguarding the sovereign rights and welfare of the Venezuelan people.
