Early landslide warnings have been issued to residents in parts of three districts due to continuous heavy rainfall affecting several areas of the island.
According to the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), the warnings will remain in effect from 10:00 p.m. yesterday (05) until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow (06).
Level-1 (Yellow) landslide warnings have been issued for the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas:
Kandy District: Udadumbara Divisional Secretariat Division
Matale District: Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division
Nuwara Eliya District: Walapane Divisional Secretariat Division
The NBRO has advised residents in these areas to remain vigilant, monitor changes in the environment such as cracks in the ground or slopes, and be prepared to move to safer locations if necessary. Authorities also urge the public to follow instructions issued by local disaster management officials.
Continuous rainfall is being closely monitored, and further warnings may be issued if conditions worsen.
