The Ministry of Health and Mass Media, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Nutritionists and the Nutritionists Association, will launch a special program tomorrow (06) to provide nutritious and appetizing meals to inpatients at government hospitals. The pilot project will begin at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
A key feature of the program is the use of customized plates, with separate sections for rice, vegetables, pickles, meat, fish, eggs and other items. Doctors say that serving meals in this way encourages patients to eat, supporting their recovery.
A fully equipped modern kitchen, capable of preparing food and drinks for up to 2,000 people at a time, has been established at the hospital and will be inaugurated as part of the program. The kitchen has been renamed the “Food and Beverages Department,” and staff have received specialized training to prepare and serve meals in a modern, hygienic manner.
