13 schools in central province remain closed due to landslide risk

Thirteen schools in Sri Lanka’s Central Province will remain closed due to the risk of landslides and difficulties caused by damaged roads, the Ministry of Education announced.

The schools affected are Medagama National School, Al-Aqsa Muslim Vidyalaya, Yatirawana Primary School, Palle Deltota Junior College, Berawila Primary School, Meemure Primary School, Meemure Kaikawala College, Kumbukgolla Primary School, Lamliur Tamil College, James Peiris Primary School, Udawatte Primary School, Hanguranketha Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls’ College, and Mettimbeya College.

Meanwhile, in the Sabaragamuwa Province, two schools have been granted further holidays due to ongoing impacts from adverse weather conditions.

The Ministry of Education further stated that all schools in the Uva Province that were damaged by the recent disaster were reopened today, following the completion of necessary safety assessments and repairs.
