The "playhouse" and "classroom" has been set up as a solution to this situation, to educate and play within the residential care period.

There are already educational activities for children through Sinhala media and the need of a teacher to start teaching activities from Tamil media has drawn special attention of the minister.

=======================

Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Savitri Bolraj supervised the children's unit of "Abeksha" Hospital (National Cancer Institute) starting January 1st, 2026

From the moment the minister entered the main entrance, every face he saw was "Abeksha" He said it was for himself or someone close to him.

When the children entered the ward campus, it was designed to be a pleasant place for young children.

Another thing the doctors woke up during this awareness was that there was a shortage of children returning to education from cancer. The reasons for this are staying away from school environment, staying away from daily activities including sports due to health disorders, avoiding economic problems arising in the family and proper education opportunities.

As a solution to the situation, educational activities and sports facilities were provided during residential therapy period, and "playhouse" and "classroom".

Educational activities are already being conducted in Sinhalese children there, and we recognize the need of a teacher to teach in Tamil.

Additionally, it has been brought to our attention that the mothers of children who are referred to the Children Intensive Treatment Unit (PICU) requires a strong counseling process to maintain the mental health of children who die in children and parents who are receiving treatment and prevent them from getting trapped in dangerous situations such as depression.

Considering all these requirements, we strive to make maximum intervention with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ministry of Health and Mass Media and the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Professional Education.
