Sri Lanka Police this morning (January 02) transported a court-ordered stock of narcotics weighing approximately 170 kilograms to the Wanathawilluwa incinerator facility for destruction, following the completion of all related legal proceedings.

Police said the narcotics were removed from the custody of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court at around 6.00 a.m. and transported under tight security arrangements. The operation was carried out with special police protection, including the deployment of personnel from the Police Special Task Force (STF).

The consignment was originally taken into police custody on September 7, 2021, based on intelligence uncovered by the Batticaloa Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau, with assistance from the Sri Lanka Navy.

Following the initial seizure, the narcotics were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations and legal action.

Authorities stated that the destruction of the narcotics was conducted in accordance with court orders and standard procedures, reaffirming the Police Department’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and preventing illicit drugs from re-entering society.
