The Chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha, Kasun Munasinghe, a member of the Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has been arrested by the Matugama Police.
Police said the arrest was made on charges of obstructing the duties of the Secretary of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha.
According to the complaint lodged by the local council Secretary, when she reported for duty this morning (02 January), the Chairman had forcefully occupied her office and interfered with her official work.
Following the complaint, Kasun Munasinghe was taken into custody this afternoon after recording a statement at the Matugama Police Station.
The arrested Chairman is due to be produced before the Matugama Magistrate’s Court.
