Police said the victims—three women and a man—were assaulted with a sharp weapon and rushed to the Mawanella Hospital. Two women and one man later died from their injuries, while a 35-year-old woman is currently receiving treatment.
The deceased, aged 52, 57 and 66, were residents of Kondeniya, Mawanella.
A 33-year-old suspect, also a resident of Kondeniya, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the attacks were carried out at three separate houses in the area and that the suspect is believed to be mentally ill.
The bodies have been placed at the Mawanella Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations, and further investigations are being conducted by the Mawanella Police.
