Although air quality remains at a generally good level across most parts of the island, a decline has been reported in several areas today, according to available data.
The air quality index (AQI) in the Galle district was recorded at 113.0 at around 6.02 p.m., indicating moderate to unhealthy conditions, while the AQI in the Vavuniya district stood at 78.0.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has stated that air quality levels are currently “unfavourable for sensitive groups” in certain areas.
The NBRO advised vulnerable groups, including young children, pregnant women, the elderly and individuals with respiratory conditions, to exercise added caution and limit prolonged outdoor exposure in affected regions.
